Clean Beauty, Healthy Body

Our body is a temple. We nourish it, water it, move it, love it, and in return we want it to thrive!

The reality is that most people don’t know what’s in the products they’re putting on their skin every day. We make good health choices, but then we unknowingly cover our bodies in questionable or harmful ingredients. Many of these ingredients have been linked to cancer, reproductive issues, allergies, and hormone disruption. What we put on our skin matters, and right now there is a lack of regulation in the industry. Health Canada, under CEPA, does not regulate the ingredients that companies use to make cosmetics, skin care, soaps, lotions, nail polish, etc.

I joined Beautycounter because I believe there is a need for change. I want to educate my loved ones and advocate for better health protective laws, laws that impact all of us! Since Beautycounter launched in 2013, we have collectively sent over 145,000 emails, made over 12,500 phone calls, held over 1,500 meetings with law makers - all in the name of better beauty. In 2019 a dozen of consultants from across Canada met in Ottawa to sit down with law makers and discuss the under regulated beauty industry. Our voices were heard!

People of all ages want to feel beautiful and the best version of themselves. At the end of the day we have to protect our health. Beautycounter takes performance and ingredient safety into consideration. Our mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone, because we all deserve better!

Ingredient safety and environmental health holds a special place in my heart. My son was born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia, a condition that the Royal University Hospital sees in newborns 3-6 times a year. This anomaly required him to have a major abdominal surgery at 6 days old, with a follow up surgery at 7 weeks old (due to complications from the first one). When I asked all his doctors and specialists why this type of anomaly occurs in some babies, their only answer was “we think it’s environmental” meaning it could have been something I was exposed to that caused his anomaly. I’m happy to report he is a cheerful, healthy two and a half year old who loves ducks, balls and books! Since his birth, I have spent many hours advocating for stricter health protective laws and passionately educating others on the importance of using products that are made safely. Every choice we make today impacts our health and wellness and the health of our planet! Let’s all make better choices. When we know better, we do better.

Prime Minister Trudeau is in the process of reviewing CEPA so Beautycounter has given us a call to action. Text BETTERBEAUTY to 70734 telling Parliament that the time to act is now.
