I am Woodland Cree and a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band in Northern Saskatchewan. As an Indigenous social worker, spirituality, philosophies, and ideologies were embedded into the BISW academic program.
During the pandemic I began to think about all the health benefits that could help others. I created “Soul-Shott Wellness” combining Social Work and Mindfulness with offerings of Yoga, Reiki, and Mental Health Therapy.
Mental Health Therapy
I am an approved Mental Health Counselling provider for the NIHB program. I provide individual counselling sessions using Social Work practices and a Mindful Approach. I have supported individuals through grief and loss, anxiety, depression, family breakdown, and many of life challenges that young people endure in adolescence. I have worked with children, youth and adults in the human service field.
My yogic path started after a traumatic loss in my family. I began searching for a more meaningful way of life. My friend invited me to a yoga class and I loved it! I developed a passion for yoga and started attending trainings to deepen my knowledge. Hot Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga, and Hatha Yoga are the trainings obtained on my path.
Hot Yoga Teacher Training - 200 YTT
This training consisted of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises in a heated studio of 40 degrees celsius. A specific sequence is followed which detoxifies the body and fresh oxygenated blood is brought to your whole system. Helps with anxiety, depression, insomnia, self esteem, and confidence.
Vinyasa Yoga for Youth - 75 YTT
I built meaningful connections with youth through the practice of yoga. Engaging youth in a fun way! Using mandalas, singing bowls and music, I created a safe space for students. They linked breath with movement and enjoyed guided meditations. Kids yoga enhances concentration, focus, empathy, flexibility, confidence levels.
Yin Yoga – 50 YTT
A Taoist philosophy, focusing on yin and yang qualities, understanding how yin yoga is different than other types of yoga. A detailed look at key anatomy and physiology concepts. We focused on the body’s connective tissues and fascial structures. For people who want slower pace, holds are 3-5 minutes, meditative slow medicine.
Namaskar Yoga - 200 YTT
Training that consisted of beginner, intermediate, and advanced asanas. It was divided into ten modules over the course of ten months. Solid foundation of classes to teach upon completion of the course.
I am a Certified Reiki Practitioner with trainings in Traditional Usui, New Earth Angel Reiki, and Jikiden Reiki. Bringing peace and relaxation in a compassionate way.
I am supportive and empathetic and look forward to connecting with clients. As an NIHB provider through Express Scripts Canada, Indigenous people with a status number can book sessions.
I enjoy going up north every summer and spending time at the lake with my loved ones. Boating on La Ronge lake brings me a great sense of peace and reflection.
